How to Create a Positive Mindset This Year

Kami

Hello readers! I am so happy to be back on the Emotional Express with you all - it's been a minute! I hope you all had a beautiful holiday season and a great start to the new year. But let's be real, I know it wasn't great for everyone.

To start us off, my dog died and my football team choked in the first round of the playoffs...so that was a rough way to start off January. However, I know that some of you are really struggling to find anything that went good. Maybe you got a new diagnosis, loss someone or an opportunity, or you feel like you are constantly failing. I am here to tell you that you are not alone!

I can relate to the terrible feeling of starting a new year and everything crumbling faster than you can write down your resolutions. Which is why I want to start the Let's Get Emotional year off by sharing some ways I create a positive mindset, even when surrounded by crumbs!

#1 - Make a Vision Board

Okay, you may think this is cliche, but just hold your horses! Every year in January I make myself a Vision Board - I fill it with dreams, goals, places, objects, etc. that I want my year to be filled with! This is not something I use to punish myself if I feel like I'm falling behind, but it's what I look at when I'm discouraged, to remember where I mentally started the year!

The best thing about making a Vision Board is that it's completely customizable to you! You can make it black and white, really small, write words, or even print out pictures. You choose the amount of effort, time, and materials to use, because it's your vision!

#2 - Create a Goodness Jar

This is probably one of the most beneficial things I have ever done in regards to impacting my mindset. I feel like society encourages us to focus on the negative - look at the news and the headlines. However, there is healing in changing your perspective to focus on things that bring you joy, radiate positivity, and make you smile!

A Goodness Jar is a container you fill with notes of good things that have happened to you. This could be something major like a promotion or something minor like the compliment you got on your outfit. We should not put a limit on what we consider is worthy to be celebrated. Write down your small victories every week and watch the goodness in your life grow! It makes you value every little bit of this beautiful life!

#3 - Spend Time With Yourself

When you start creating steps to shift your mindset, you will notice things in you start to change. Maybe you feel more motivated or your creativity starts to bloom. I encourage you to spend time with those feelings. This world has taught us to silence ourselves, to sacrifice our dreams, to stay in our bubbles, and to accept the negativity that comes with life.

However, as someone who truly believes there is so much beauty in life and growth in loss, I know how important it is to nurture yourself, to love yourself, and to listen to yourself.

You may not always have that friend you can lean on or someone who understands how your mind works, but you do have the opportunity get to know yourself better! Try the new things, journal your thoughts, go on solo dates, etc. Don't be afraid to be different, to enjoy time alone, or to express how you feel.

Let's work together to be more positive this year!

Readers, you can always share your mindset with me, so why not start now! Check out the poll below and then comment what you are most excited for, this year! Talk to you next time!
