Make Space For Yourself This Holiday Season

Happy (almost) Halloween, friends! I genuinely can't believe we are approaching a new month this week. The most wonderful time of the year is upon us! The trick-or-treaters are fixing their costumes, the turkeys are being bought, and Christmas lists are being written. The season of busyness and joy is here, whether we are ready or not.

I wait all year for this time! I love to decorate, bake seasonal goods, and enjoy the cozy weather. Sometimes, I get so buried by my to-do lists and "host" mode that I forget I deserve to enjoy the season too.

I am sure that many of you, like me, find yourself swarmed with events and things to do that you forget to take time for yourself. That is why I want to encourage you to make space for yourself this holiday season!

How Do I Make Space For Myself?

Making space for yourself during the holidays can be difficult as many people need and want a lot from you. However, everyone deserves to have space during the holidays to reflect, enjoy, and be present throughout the season.

Some ways to make space are:

  • Have a solo date with yourself - watch a Christmas movie by yourself or bake your favorite treat.

  • Write down all the good things - If journaling seems too hard, just keep a notebook with a list of good things that have happened.

  • Give yourself free days - Scheduling is good, but every day doesn't have to be full!

  • Do things you like - Don't spend all day making a holiday meal that everyone wants and forgetting about the food you like (make carrots even if you are the only one who will eat them).

  • Don't hold space for people who take up all of yours - This holiday season you don't need permission to stay away from the people that take your joy, peace, or excitement.

  • Do your childhood traditions - A great way to hold space for you may be to think on why you loved the holidays as a child, then implement those things this year!

You Have Space Here!

This holiday season, I am here to tell you I understand how hard it is to hold space for yourself. As a perfectionist, overthinker, and worry wart it's hard for me to do this, but I also know that the holiday seasons are special and we shouldn't let ourselves get in our own way. Let me know in the comments how you hold space for yourself in the holiday season or how it's a struggle! Talk to you next time!
