It's spooky season, friends! The pumpkins are being carved and the costume hunt begins, but maybe this orange hazed holiday makes you stressed.

Whether you celebrate every year with with a Halloween party and need new ideas to make it simpler, or it's your first time celebrating the holiday, I am here to share my simple steps to making the best Halloween party that is easy, low-maintenance, and won't give you the frights!

#1 - The Details

My starting point for any event or gathering is to get all of the details ironed out first! This is probably the part you are dreading the most, but it doesn't have to be complicated. These are the things you need to set: time, place, date, theme, and guests.

  • Time, Date, and Place - This is the "bones" of the operation. It can get complicated because your third cousin is out of town that weekend and your annoying coworker "can't" be out late. Let's be honest we make events much harder than needed. I encourage you to pick the time and day that is best for you (as you are the host). I've learned not everyone will make it and that's fine! Use your house, a friend's place, or wherever is convenient for you. Don't let the details ruin your fun!

  • Theme - I find it easier to know an overall theme going into the party process. It can be as simple as classic Halloween staples or more specific like Witch's brew vibes. Having an idea, will make the process easier when you start looking for decor!

  • Guests - Last but not least, who are you inviting? Let me tell you, don't invite the complicated cousins or annoying coworkers, invite the people you really want to be there! Who will make the night fun, festive, and memorable in the best ways? That's who should get the invite! Send that text, Canva invitation, or tell them in person. Inviting people should not be stressful, so let's not make it!

#2 - The Decorations

Now, it's time for the fun stuff! You can't have a Halloween party without decorations. Whether you want your house to look haunted or just cute, there are many options for you! With this being an easy, low-maintenance guide I am going to share a few of my tips on decorating for your festive party!

  • Use what you already have! Use your pumpkins, leaves, Halloween blankets, etc. Utilize your current materials first!

  • Don't hate on the cheap stuff! Most of the time we go to Hobby Lobby or Target and spend too much money on decorations, but the Dollar Store and thrift stores are here to help you out! Use the plastic spiders and fluffy cotton, it doesn't matter where it came from.

  • Make decor yourself! My favorite thing about parties is getting to tap into my crafty side. I am not Van Gogh, but I can manage, and it's fun!

  • Lastly, there will be other parties that have better decorations than you, but they probably spent hundreds of dollars, used other people's services, and are mainly doing it for their Instagram. Decorate in a way that makes you happy!

Here are some of my favorite, easy, DIY Halloween decorations ideas:

#3 - The Food

Yummy, yummy it's time to talk all things Halloween food! There are several ways you could go about getting food to your party. One: you make all of the food! Two: you ask your guests to bring their favorite Halloween treat! I think that either of these options can be successful and unique, but it's up to you! Your food doesn't have to get too complicated either. How many times have you gone to a party and then gotten dinner after? Most people come to snack, have fun, and hang out. The expectations of an entire meal is pretty low for a Halloween party. So, I have attached some easy Halloween themed foods you can utilize this Halloween:

  • Snacks - mummy pretzels, char'boo'terie board, pumpkin cupcakes, popcorn, caramel apple dip, mummies in a blanket, etc.

  • Meals - jack-o-lantern stuffed peppers, spaghetti and eyeballs, spooky shaped pizzas, etc.

#4 - The Costumes

You may be thinking, costumes? There is no better way to get festive and collaborate with your guests than to dress up! It is such a fun time dressing up as an adult because it brings you back to your childhood! You can order a costume, make your own, or rewear an old one. Encourage your friends to join in on the fun, just don't forget to mention it with the invite!

#5 - The Activity

The most important part of the Halloween party process is having something to do. Snacking away and talking about each other's costume will only last so long, which is why having an activity is crucial. However, this does not have to be crazy elaborate. The point of having an activity is too keep guests excited and engaged for as long as possible, so people don't want to leave after 5 minutes!

Here are my favorite Halloween party activities:

  • Halloween Movie

  • Pumpkin Painting/Carving

  • Spooky Karaoke

  • Murder Mystery Game/Scavenger Hunt

  • Halloween Themed Games

Happy Party Planning!

Well if I had friends/family to invite to a Halloween party. You make the whole process sound like a piece of (pumpkin cup) cake.
